Dr. Catherine Fosl of the Anne Braden Institute, Carla Wallace from Showing Up for Racial Justive, and Chris Reitz and Jessica Oberdick of the Hite Institute joined us to discuss this exhibit. . Dr. Catherine Fosl is a Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and founding Director of the Anne Braden Institute. Dr. Fosl was Anne Braden’s biographer and is the author of Subversive Southerner: Anne Braden and the Struggle for Racial Justice in the Cold War South (Palgrave Macmillan, 2002), as well as other books.

Carla Wallace is a civil rights activist in Louisville, Ky. She is co-founder of the Fairness Campaignand Showing Up for Racial Justice and a member of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights Hall of Fame

Chris Reitz is Assistant Professor of Critical and Curatorial Studies and Gallery Director at the Hite Art Institute. His research focuses on transnational practices in art and exhibitions of the past 30 years, with a particular emphasis on art and the art market in the era of neoliberalism.

Jessica Oberdick is a visual artist, curator, and writer. She has contributed to various online platforms including Burnaway and Ruckus Louisville, and was recently published in the international magazine Boshemia. She has curated + co-curated exhibitions at 1619 Flux and KMAC Museum, both in Louisville, and currently is the Exhibitions Assistant for the Hite Institute for Visual Art at the University of Louisville.

LVA's Artebella On The Radio 7.26.18

We began this week's show with the announcement from WXOX Station Manager Sharon Scott and outgoing LVA Outreach Director Ehren Reed that this design by Wilfred Seig III won the selection for a mural on WXOX's east facing wall! Seig will begin the mural soon, and expects to be finished by the end of August.

Then incoming LVA Outreach Program Manager Katy Delahanty, Portland studio artist, and board member for the Portland Museum, joined us to talk about her new job with LVA, why the Portland neighborhood is important to the city. She was joined by fellow Portland artist Bryan K. Holden to discuss The Future Is Now mentorship program that is a collaboration with LVA and KyCAD. he was paired with Ballard HS student Marc Nadmid, who was also in the studio with us.
