The History Inspires Fellowship at Th Filson Historical Society is accepting application through October 17th at 4 pm..

Scott Scarboro is a Multimedia artist focuses on artifacts, fragments, memories and icons. Scarboro is a non-folk artist who has nonetheless participated in folk art shows and festivals. His diverse body of work includes sculpture, fiber wall hangings, mixed media collages, art cars, and glitch videos. Scotchamo - "Station to Stereo" was performed LIVE in the Art FM Performance Studio on March 29 of this year. He is also the Special Events Coordinator  at the Filson Historical Society.

Curator of Photographs and Prints Heather J. Potter received a BA degree from Washburn University and a MLS from Indiana University Bloomington.

Since its founding in 1884, The Filson Historical Society has preserved the region's collective memory, not only of Kentucky but also of the Ohio Valley and the Upper South.

"Sanctum" a solo art show by Alexandra Rumsey is at Grady Goods, 620 Baxter Ave, Louisville, KY, through October 15.

Alexandra Rumsey's 4th Solo Show "Sanctum" is an interactive, holistic, installation experience that confronts the issue of the ethical treatment of wild animals. "Sanctum" hopes to honor these deceased and historically sacred animals through a spiritual lens. A portion of the profits of the sellable works will be donated to Kentucky SPCA. (Kentucky Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)

Esther Callahan has juried the 2024 Ohio Valley Biennial for Louisville Visual Art (LVA) and talks about the exhibit with us this week. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

An independent curator, arts consultant, social and creative entrepreneur, Esther Callahan also organizes and manages various art projects around the Twin Cities. Over the past 20+ years, she has created and co-created various platforms for cultural production and dialogue rooted in interrogating the impact of racial and gender equity, and our future histories. Most recently, through her "Periphery of Power" exhibition in late 2023 at Gamut Gallery in Minneapolis, MN. She has held positions as Co-Director of the Emerging Curators Institute that builds the individual practices of emerging curators, Artistic Director of Arts and Rec US, Great Meadows Foundation Critic in Residence in 2021, and former Curatorial Fellow at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. From the beginning of her career, she has believed in working hand-in-hand with artists to facilitate their evolution, and in turn the advancement of their careers, growing together and finding common lines of investigation, reflected in a strong focus to create a space that builds dialogue among different communities. She believes in the power of art and in living a life that makes an impact.

The 2024 Ohio Valley Biennial is on view through October 24 at the LVA Gallery.

Artists Talk with LVA: September 5, 2024

From September 13, 2024 to March 14, 2025, the Filson Historical Society in Louisville, Kentucky hosts a new exhibit you won’t want to miss. Based on the upcoming, comprehensive biography, Driftwood: The Life of Harlan Hubbard, this exhibition brings to life the story of a man who, though beloved by his fellow Kentuckians, deserves broad recognition in the disciplines of American landscape painting, writing, and environmental advocacy.

Jessica K. Whitehead has served the Kentuckiana community for over a decade, moving to the Louisville area in 2011 after graduating with a BA in Art History and English from Hanover College. As Curator of Collections at the Kentucky Derby Museum, she works closely with the rest of the Curatorial and Education departments to promote a rich and diverse understanding of the Kentucky Derby and what it has meant—and means—to the Commonwealth and the country through exhibits and collections-based programming.

In addition to her work at the Museum, she is an independent writer, artist, and curator, specializing in themes related to Ohio River Valley history, the natural world, and the arts. She has written the introduction to the recently published The Watercolors of Harlan Hubbard: From the Collection of Bill and Flo Caddell (University Press of Kentucky, 2021) and her first full book, Driftwood: Harlan Hubbard in the American Grain, is under contract with University Press of Kentucky, to appear in February 2025.

Artists Talk with LVA: August 29, 2024

Keith McGill is clever, insightful, and a little bit eye-opening.  His comedy is truth with a twist. Indianapolis’ NUVO said, "Keith McGill has a style that is smooth and temperate, and lacks any gaudy gimmicks or catch phrases, making him one of the best standup acts within earshot... His material is positive and PG-13, yet still intelligently critical of the comical absurdities [of life]...The Louisville native is impossible not to like." Keith was also a STANDUP NBC Competition finalist. As well as touring internationally on Royal Caribbean and Holland America Cruise Lines, Keith has appeared on BET, CMT, LAUGHS on FOX and is a Bob and Tom Show favorite, and a much sought-after entertainer for corporate events.

Aaron Raymer earned a BFA in 2006 at the University of Louisville, and a MFA in 2008 at New York University with full scholarship support at both institutions. He has shown in New York (Kate Werble Gallery), across the US Midwest and South, and in Santiago Chile in an exhibition curated by Sebastian Errazuriz. He has been interviewed and reviewed by the New York Times along with other publications. Raymer is a father, and has taught in the University of Louisville Hite Institute of Art + Design since 2017. 

He is represented by Garner Large and Garner Narrative in Louisville KY.
