Janet Dake is a figurative painter from Versailles, Kentucky, now based in Louisville. Her work is about people, both real and imagined. Dake’s paintings tell stories. Through intricate (and often made-up) backgrounds, Dake creates narratives that reflect contemporary social issues and cultural phenomena. In 2021 she completed an Artist Residency in Toronto, Canada, where she had her first solo show entitled Human Nature. In 2022, her work was selected for the Ferrara Showman Gallery for their annual No Dead Artists group show and the Post Roe Louisiana show at the Carrollton Gallery at Tulane University. Her work was recently displayed at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art for the annual Louisiana Contemporary showcase. Dake is currently a member of Pyro Gallery in Louisville, KY.

Fueling The Fires of Creativity: 20th Anniversary Exhibition at Pyro Gallery

June 30 through July 30, 2023

John McCarthy is an artist, ceramic sculptor, and art educator. His sculptural pieces are hand-built and highly manipulated to create organic shapes with an emphasis on texture and subtle, naturally glazed surfaces. McCarthy has used stoneware firings to produce one-of-a-kind compositions that are striking and durable, whether used indoors or as exterior garden sculpture.

Photographer and artist Keith Auerbach is a native of Louisville, Kentucky. For nearly 15 years his photographs appeared in LEO WEEKLY (Louisville Eccentric Observer). In 2007 he published “The Photographic Humor of Keith Auerbach,” which won a Book of The Year (IPPY) award from the Independent Publishers Association. He has won many additional awards and competitions including an International Photography Awards "Lucie."

Kathleen Loomis asks “Why do artists make art? For me, its not to produce beautiful images and objects, although I hope some of my work has a bit of beauty. By contrast, I’m a commentator.

Some of my comments are loud and brazen, speaking out when our society seems to be taking wrong turns. Some are indirect, mourning the people who fight our wars and suffer from depredation. Some are wry, taking on the tropes and cliches of mass communication and American culture.

I work primarily in fiber, either with a needle in hand or a needle in a sewing machine. This constant reminder of traditional female domestic pursuits lends an edge to what I make the hand that rocks the cradle and does the laundry can also pull a voting lever. “

Elmer Lopez is a Spanish American artist with over 17 years of specialized experience using a variety of mediums and techniques. He studied art at duPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky where he was accepted into the Visual Arts program. After graduating, he majored in Studio Art and minored in Business at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Elmer also studied abroad at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin in Germany, Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute of China, and Shanghai University in China; learning new customs, cultural techniques and mediums, which he implements in his work today.

Mary Farnum Burnley is a Louisville native who studied at Murray State University, the University of Louisville, and the Rhode Island School of Design. She has exhibited in numerous, solo and group exhibitions. She has taught Art in Jefferson County at the high school level and adult classes through Louisville Visual Art. Burnley has received numerous awards and is included in collections of universities, hospitals, and corporations including the United States government, the Ford motor company and Merrill Lynch.

Katherine Corcoran is a sculptor who describes herself as a constructivist. The Russian constructivist movement in the early 20th century was interested in moving away from painting on canvas and trying new ways to make art. She worked designing exhibit space, fabricating custom trophies, and producing books for blind children;

Dessie Spears is from Corydon, Indiana. Before she retired, she was an equipment operator and operation engineer. She attended Ivy Tech for Commercial Art and began working as an artist for a display company in Louisville Kentucky. At the age of 49 she enrolled in the San Francisco Academy of Art majoring in Interior Design and Architecture

Their exhibit, All in the Process opens on January 6 at Pyro Gallery. There will be an Artists’ Talk on January 15..

AFFIRMATIONS OF COLOR AND LIFE & THE ALLIED DRAWERS CONSORTIUM: PAINTINGS & DRAWINGS

September 2 through the 25th at Pyro Gallery

“Affirmations of Color and Life” are recent painting of Aaron Lubrick. Lubrick’s work depicts many scenes from his daily interactions of being an art teacher, father, and artist. Finding moments of color orchestrated within compositions of playgrounds, construction scenes, and still-lifes. Lubrick relies on symbolism and an overall sense of gesture to make his paintings feel fresh and alive.

The Allied Drawers Consortium will also be represented in September at Pyro Gallery. Each artist will have one figure drawing represented and one personal piece of art. Aaron Lubrick was a founding member of The Allied Drawers Consortium. The following member artists have been drawing together for 5 years now: Noah Howard, Colleen Clines, Maggie Clines, Richard Sullivan, Kevin Arthur, and Aaron Lubrick.
