LVA In-School Programs


LVA's in-school programs provide engaging, in-depth arts experiences with a focus on project-based learning. We partner with teachers to help students explore curricular concepts though the lens of visual art, supporting the development of literacy and communication skills and enhancing student comprehension of core academic content. Projects are tailored to meet the specific needs of each classroom and serve to enrich not only the individual participants, but the school community as a whole.

LVA In-School Program Offerings

 

FIVE SESSION CUSTOM

Program Cost: $1500

Grades:  K-12

 

Custom five-session workshops allow teachers to work with LVA to create a one-of-a-kind program for their students. LVA's teaching artist will work closely with you to develop a dynamic project that explores the academic subject of your choosing. Each session is 1.5 hours, or two 45 min. class periods, for five consecutive days or once a week for five weeks. Limit 60 students per workshop with the option of "adding on" additional groups of students for an additional fee.

 

EIGHT SESSION CUSTOM

Program Cost: $2000

Grades:  K-12

 

Custom eight-session workshops allow teachers to work with LVA to create a one-of-a-kind  program for their students. LVA's teaching artist will work closely with you to develop a dynamic project that explores the academic subject of your choosing. Each session is 1.5 hours, or two 45 min. class periods, for eight consecutive days or once a week for eight weeks. Limit 60 students per workshop with the option of "adding on" additional groups of students for an additional fee.

 

MASK MAKING

Program Cost: $1250

Grades:  K-12

 

Our Mask-Making Program is a five-session workshop that allows students to work with an LVA teaching artist to create hand-made masks based on the subject of your choosing. This workshop is a perfect complement to theatre classes, and is also an ideal addition to literature lessons. Each session is 1.5 hours, or two 45 min. class periods for five consecutive days or once a week for five weeks.  Limit 60 students per workshop with the option of "adding on" additional groups of students for an additional fee.

 

WOOD SCULPTURE

Program Cost: $1250

Grades:  4-12

Our Wood Sculpture Program is a three-session workshop that allows students to work with LVA teaching artist Janet Britt to create wood sculptures. Each student will draw an endangered animal on a piece of wood and the artist will cut each one out and secure it to a base. Students will paint their sculptures and add details as well. If time allows, students will share their results and the information they've learned with classmates. This workshop is a perfect complement to science classes, art lessons, and environmental themes, and can also be an ideal addition to literature lessons. Each session is 1.5 hours or two 45 min. class periods for three consecutive days or once a week for three weeks. Limit 60 students per workshop with the option of "adding on" additional groups of students for an additional fee.

 

MURAL PROGRAM

Program Cost: $2000

Grades:  2-12

Our Mural Program is an eight-session workshop during which an LVA teaching artist will collaborate with you to devise a lesson plan and will lead students in the creation of a mural in either paint or clay (permanent or temporary) to support your preferred academic subject. This workshop is a perfect complement to theatre classes to create a set for a play or performance and is also an ideal addition to literature or history lessons. Each session is 1.5 hours or two 45 min. class periods or eight consecutive days or once a week for eight weeks. Limit 60 students per workshop with the option of "adding on" additional groups of students for an additional fee.

 

VISUAL HISTORY

Program Cost: $1250

Grades:  K-12

Visual History Program is a five-session workshop that allows students to work with an LVA teaching artist to create a quilt piece based on the artist Judy Chicago-initiated International Honor Quilt. With the support of actual quilt pieces from this large-scale artwork on loan from University of Louisville, students will explore important female figures in history, literature, science and other fields and create a unique work of art that celebrates the achievements of women. This workshop is a perfect complement to social studies, literature lessons, and art lessons. Each session is 1.5 hours or two 45 min. class periods for five consecutive days or once a week for five weeks. Limit 60 students per workshop with the option of "adding on" additional groups of students for an additional fee.
